Chess - The Royal Game - is a strategic board game where two players alternately move playing pieces on a board - the chess board. The aim of the game is to beat the king pawn of the opposing player's - to put it checkmate.
In Europe and many other parts of the world, chess is well known and the most popular board game. Many chess players are members of chess clubs, which are themselves members of regional and national chess federations around the world. They have joined forces in the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Chess tournaments are organized by private operators, chess clubs and organizations.
